In commemoration of Easter Week, here are some interesting facts about the History of EaStEr.
EGG-Citing right?
(couldn't choose just one, so bear with us here)
- The Easter Egg: An ancient symbol of new life. The exchange of eggs for Easter dates back to a springtime custom older than Easter itself in which eggs were given as a symbol of rebirth in many cultures.
Easter is all about renewal and new life, so the egg is not that out of place after all!
- The Rabbit: is a symbol of new life and rebirth. The legend holds that a poor woman living in Germany decorated colorful eggs for her children to find. As soon as the hidden eggs were found by the children, a large bunny was seen hopping away. This ancient legend is thought to be the root of the Easter Bunny we know and love today.
When taking a bite into a chocolate bunny, 76% of Americans prefer to bite off the ears first. 5% eat the feet first and 4% eat the tail first.
What do YOU bite off first? Now I'm gonna have to go get one just to see what I bite first ;)
- In the old days pretzels were associated with Easter because the twists of the pretzel were thought to resemble arms crossing in prayer.(Who Knew??)
Isn't Easter The BEST!
(as I sit eating a stash of pre-easter Easter Candy... Yum)
