Ruffled Crib Skirt Tutorial

This tutorial is really easy, just a little time consuming. But that's coming from a non-sewer, so if your anything like me, you can't sew for hours and hours. I get numb bum. So I have to take a lot of snack breaks ;) Anyways. Here's what you'll need:
*3 yards of material {this was my black material-and I had lots of extra so you really don't need this much, but it was super cheap. So the more the merrier right?}
*2 yards of ruffle material {this was my damask material}
*1 1/2 yards white material {I just bought a nice looking sheet from DI for $2 and washed it four times ;)}
OK... READY.SET.GO!
First- You'll want to measure your crib, because these measurements are what I came up with. I cut out three pieces of my black material, all 9 inches long. The two sides were 26 inches wide and the front piece was 52 inches wide. SO:
-Two 9x26
-One 9x52
{of the black material}
Second- I cut strips for my ruffles. On each panel I had three ruffles, two damask and one black. I made each ruffle 6 inches long and double the length of each of the black pieces.
Third-I hemmed the bottom and sides of all pieces of my fabric so they would look nice and not fray. I don't have a serger, but if you do, use it here!
Fourth- Get your ruffle strips and make them into ruffles! I just put my sewing machine on the lowest tension and the longest length and it gathered my material for me!
Fifth- Pin those ruffles onto your black strips of fabric. I just added my ruffles right onto my black piece of fabric {I'm Lazy} ALSO on the top ruffle, sew the top of the ruffled part RIGHT SIDES TOGETHER, then flip it over so the top stitch {mess} is hidden. Then I just added the other ruffles right underneath the top one.
Is this making sense?
Sixth- Add your three panels to the white sheet so they are all connected, I did right sides together again, so you have a nice clean edge.

AND YOUR DONE! Add this beauty to the bottom of your crib, and ENJOY!  I love all the ruffle goodness. I should mention, I was going to add ruffles all the way down the fabric, but I figured the top two ruffles would be covered by the wood anyways, AND when you lower the crib, instead of covering the ruffles, you just tuck in the black material and your ruffles still look amazing!

I'm getting closer! Now I just need this darn crib painted white, and a splash of turquoise with a crib sheet and puff quilt and this nursery will be ready for my baby girl!

Let us know if you make your own RUFFLED CRIB SHEET, we'd LOVE to see your results ;) Also, if you have any questions/comments feel free to ask and comment away!

Crib Bumper Tutorial

These are EASY PEASY and I'm SO thrilled with the way they turned out!
Supplies
*Bumper Pads {I bought some nice ones for $3 at DI that worked perfect}
*3 yards fabric
*Ribbon for your ties

I did my bumpers in four separate pieces. Two sides, and two pieces for the front and back. Let's get started!
First- Trace your bumper pad onto your fabric {add a little material for sewing room} Cut that out and make another one just like it!
Second- Pin the fabric right sides together, along with the ribbon {for the ties} where you want them to go.
I also wanted a little frill to my pads, so  I got a 2 inch piece of plain black fabric, sewed it in half, then ruffled it. I pinned this to the top of my bumper pad. {Make sure the rugged end is matching with the ends of the fabric, so the pretty ruffled part is tucked inbetween the two fabrics. Like so..
Third- Just SEW-sew-sew. Only sew three sides, leaving one of the ends open to slide the bumper pad into.
Fourth-After your bumper pad is in, tuck in the open ended fabric, add your ribbon and sew it shut!
Fifth- Add those babies onto your crib and imagine your baby girl sleeping next to those beautiful crib bumpers you just made. {sighh} Ok, maybe I am the only one who will do that.
Weren't those easy? Again, all I need now is that hubby of mine to paint this crib for me, so everything is matching! We'll get there eventually...Until then, here are a few {white trash} pictures of my bumpers. I semi- set up our crib so I could see what they looked like. SO when all the furniture is painted and complete I will do a full picture of my crib bedding!

If you guys make any of these PLEASE show me how yours turned out. I would LOVE to see them! Good luck, and have SEW much fun!

Rocking Chair Cushion Cover

OK- My cushion covers are a little rough. I had to make my own foam pad and let's just say there are probably a million easier ways to cut  3 inch foam! It also doesn't help that I'm a beginner sewer.
But if I can do it, SEW can you!
 Let's finish these pads in SEVEN easy steps, shall we?
First things first, here's what you'll need!
*A rocking chair
*3 inch foam pad
*1 inch foam pad
*3 yards of fabric
*Ribbon of your choice
FIRSTLY-I measured my chair so I knew how big and how much of everything I needed. I also traced the size/shape of the chair onto paper, both the bum and the back.
Secondly- From the paper, I traced the shape onto my foam pads. I used the 3 inch for the bum piece (This gal wanted LOTS of padding) Then I used the 1 inch for the back piece.
Thirdly- I cut out that dreadful foam. {If anyone knows of an easier way to cut foam besides scissors PLEASE Share!}
Fourthly-Use the same paper stencil to measure out your fabric. Remember for the 3 inch bum piece to add a couple of inches for sewing room, you won't need as much extra for the back piece but still leave a little for sewing room.
Fifthly- Cut out your strips of ribbon for the ties
Sixthly- Grab both pieces of fabric for your bum piece, pin your ties where you want them and sew {your fabric will be right sides together} Leave the back edge open so you can slide your foam in. Tuck in the edges, add your ties and sew the back piece together. Voila! Now do the same for the back piece!
{right sides together}
Seventhly- Go and tie your new cushions onto your rocking chair and rock the night away! I, on the other hand, will beg that husband of mine to fix up and paint my rocking chair so my new cushions will look extra fabulous! I also added a little strip of ruffle across the top to match my bumper pads, not sure I love it. But I'm thinking if I add a super cute pillow in the mix it will be a little cuter. Any suggestions?

If you have any questions, or any tips on making this easier please share!
