A Month of Order #4

Yay!
Another project finished!  And yes, tomorrow we start a new WORD.  Yipee!
(But that doesn't mean that I won't keep working on this months word...)

So.

I started out with this:

And ended up with this:

Much nicer, don't you think?  Back in the days before Pinterest {you can follow my pins here} I had pages and pages of patterns, ideas, recipes, important papers, ect. that I just didn't know what to do with.  They were all in one big lump of a mess.  A few things I wanted to keep, but just didn't want to store, so I just took pictures of and pined them to my boards so I will have them without keeping them.
So awesome!!
But a lot of things I didn't want to chuck or pin, so I filed them into categories.

Make that color coded categories.

So all my patterns are green, then separated into it's appointed file.  I'm in love.  I don't have a picture of it, but I even have a folder for current projects, so if I have an extra minute or two while the baby {soon to be babies -- eek!} are down for a snooze, I have something to do.

Sweet huh?

A Month of Order #3

Trulie Scrumptious' month of order is almost over.

How's it been going for you?  Do you have any projects you'd like to share?!  Link them up!!  I wanna see 'em!

I've still got quite a few things on my list, but I figure pouring order over into the next month [or two] until I finish all my projects, won't kill anyone.   What I have accomplished has made such a difference.  Everything seems to flow a lot more smoothly.

The biggest change so far has been my kitchen.  {more pictures coming soon.  I'm waiting on finding a few more baskets from TargĂ© to complete my masterpiece-they are always out of my bins when I go!  Grr!}

I completely purged my pantry, and while it looks like we have no food {or so the husband says}, we can find things more easily and I can see immediately what we're out of and everything is in it's own little spot.  Here's a little sneaker peaker...

Another thing I changed {which threw my hubby in a doosy} was rearranging my cupboards and pulling out things that were never getting used to make room for more essential things.  {Hello DI!}

I remade one cabinet into my baking essentials station and it makes baking and clean up a whole heck of a lot faster.  Everything baking is right there so I'm not constantly going back and forth from the pantry any more.

Do you see my cute little labels! {**squeal**!}

I do have my utinsil drawers to still go through and clear out.  Just need a quick trip to Wally World {wal*mart} to get some of those inexpensive drawer organizers...

A quick fix, but I absolutely d-r-e-a-d going there.  It completely sucks you in and I have to look at everything and before I know it I've been there an hour only to get toothpaste and bread.

Why, Wal*Mart...WHYYYYY?!!!

One day I'll get there...

One day.

Link up to show off what you've done with your month of order right here:

I've got more finished projects to show you...
Stay tuned!

Cravings:

I know that once preggers, everyone has different cravings.  If only mine were more healthy...

The last couple days I have had a hankering for thick cut fries and fry sauce...
MMMMmmmm.
{look at all that fried starchy goodness!}

So the hubby treated me with Five Guys for lunch :)

Miss Mosey thoroughly enjoyed her first dippings of fry sauce.  I think she had more on her face by the end than she consumed.  Funny girl.   She was concentrating so hard to dip that fry.
She is just like her momma and L-O-V-E-S french fries.  (and ice cream...and cookies...)

Yum!

It totally hit the spot.

Right down to the last little tater nubs.

The Dresser from You-Know-Where...

Ok, so I didn't make {another} batch of cookies yesterday.   And I didn't get to the garage, but as I was doing laundry, I figured I'd wash all my little cookie's clothes in her dresser because they yet again started to smell.
Uh huh, so the story with the dresser {from you-know-where} starts  6 months prior to our little one being born.  It was a craigslist purchase and was only $40.  A good steal, I thought.  When we drove all the way to Timbuktu to get it, I found that the thing was a piece of, well-you-know-what.  I felt bad for the lady who was trying to sell it.  She was 9+ months pregnant with tons of kids running around so we took it.

My dad graciously took it home to the Burg and fixed it up.  Brent laboriously painted it inside and out, we put new hardware on it and:
It was beautiful. (I wish I had before pictures)  6 drawers of white and satin nickel that completed her room so flawlessly.
Only one draw back- the smell.  We have tried for over a year and a half to get out the oil based paint smell.  Clorox, baking soda, tea bags, essential oils, all types of cleaners,  dryer sheets, airing it out for weeks outside, even a re-paint job.  Nothing has worked.  And I mean N-O-T-H-I-N-G.   We've been able to delay the smell, but it always comes back.

It's got one last chance to get fixed, otherwise I'm taking an axe to it, and I'm not even going to feel bad about it.
Not at all.
So if you want to help out a dresser in need of not being turned into chopsticks and have some helpful tips, it would be forever grateful.

Hello Order

I have felt that the last few years have just whizzed on by before I could even blink.  But for some reason this year, although still in its infancy, seems to have slowed down a bit.   It seems like the last two months of last year got shorter and faster with each passing day with the hustle bustle of the holidays; especially with having a little one in the house. But it seems like January has cut me some slack and has given me a chance to catch my breath and take grasp of the months ahead.

Maybe it's a way for my head to comprehend the now before I take the tremendous task of being a mother of two {and lose my head later on}.
Or it's my rediscovery of the word ORDER that has allowed me to be top of everything and I just have that much more time on my hands..
Or!
I've unearthed a new super human power...

Whatever it is.. I LIKE it.
Or's it's my new super human power
I'm pretty sure that's what it is..

I finally feel myself allowing myself to slow down {and not because I'm getting bigger...er, my belly, that is ;} and enjoy the little things in my life.  The things that make it worthwhile.  I'm sure if my grass wasn't dead in my backyard {and not because I killed it!} I'd be watching it grow to be able to savor watching the earth spring back into life and turn green again.  I take great pleasure in watching things grow.  Especially her:

 Gosh, she's getting so big!

As January draws nearer to February, take a few steps back to reflect on this month and the things that you have accomplished.  I have done a few {small-ish} to my home in just these short few weeks that has made me feel proud and has made my life run a lot more smooth.  Which has given me more time.  And who doesn't want more time. {More Walking Dead season 2 please...}

Even if it seems like you haven't done anything yet this month, go ahead and DO something.  Something that will stand out and take precedence of the next eleven months and gets you started out on the right foot.

Don't feel like tomorrow's to late to get started.  But don't turn tomorrow into tomorrow's tomorrow. That's one thing over the years that I have found-there's no better time than the present to get something started.
Just go do it.
It's taken me a long time to grasp that.  If I want that dang garage to be clean, I just gotta go out there and do it...

right now...

er,
Now.

As soon as I'm done with this post.

....

So. Not. Procrastinating.

Wait,
Do you smell that?

I smell cookies.

{How can that be? I ate the whole batch of cookies from last week.}

Hmm....

Must be the Baby smelling them..

Baby called it.

I'm going to go make some more cookies instead.

I'll start on the garage tomorrow.

Tomorrow doesn't seem that bad.

{I'm so bad.}

Things Mormon Girls Say...

My hubby's beautiful and talented cousin (the cute red head) and roommate made this and it made me smile.  So for all the Molly Mo-mo's out there-here's a little laugh for you ;)

Let it snow!

Hurray for white stuff!  It {finally} snowed!
Although when I got up this morning and saw a light dusting of snow covering the ground and I laughed.

This, is what the big storm brought?... I thought.
Ooooh no.

I has dumped about 5 inches in mere hours.
 I certainly wasn't fun to drive in this morning for work.  But it is pretty no?
 But we don't have to fret that it will stick around long.  It's already starting to melt.  Which kind of makes me sad.  I love snow days.  We had plenty growing up as kids.  We would wake up extra early just to listen to the radio to see if our county was out for the day.
Jumping off the roof into a huge pile of fluffy snow (Yes,  we would get that much snow). Our dad making us snow caves.  My mom handing us warm cups of hot chocolate to help warm our red noses and cheeks.
Speaking of, I'm going to go grab come of me and Mosey's cookies that we made last night, {they taste just as fantastic the next day...oooh yum!} warm up some hot cocoa, and pop in a movie.
Yup, it's definitely going to be that kind of afternoon.

Martha's got a great cocoa recipe here.

A great homemade staple to add to your pantry.

Enjoy!

Cheesy Spaghetti Bake and Chocolate Chip Cookies

The southwestern part of Idaho is expecting a huge snow storm starting this evening.  We haven't received a-n-y snow this winter, which has been pretty unusual for our area.  The snow plows, tire companies, and commuters are gearing up for tomorrow's big dump.   Here's how me and Miss Mosey prepared for tomorrows snowy descent:
...

We made cookies.
You never know if the power might go out and leave us without an oven when a sudden cookie monster craving hits.

Sheesh.  Good thing we are prepared!

Nothing is better than homemade cookies right out of the oven.
Wait there is...
A new cookie recipe cookie right out of the oven that is super ooey gooey, light and fluffy yummy and tops all your other chocolate chip cookie recipes is.  Yup, I found my new and true cooke recipe with a secret ingredient.  See if you can point it out.  Recipe is below.
 Best-Ever Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients:
3/4 c. unsalted butter, softened
3/4 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. granulated sugar
1 egg
2 tsp. vanilla extract
2 c. all purpose flour
2 tsp. cornstarch
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt  *I like more salt in my cookies so I added a full tsp.
1 c. bittersweet chocolate chips *I like less chips in mine so I added about 3/4 cup.

Directions:
1.  Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

2.  In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, cream together butter and sugars until fluffy and light in color. Add egg and vanilla and blend in.

3.  Mix in flour, cornstarch, baking soda and salt. Stir in chocolate chunks.

4.  Using a standard-sized cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop dough onto a prepared baking sheet.  Bake for 8-10 minutes, until barely golden brown around the edges.  (The tops will not brown, but do NOT cook longer than ten minutes.)

5.  Let cool, on the sheet, on a wire rack for five minutes.  Remove from baking sheet and let cool completely.

*For me, it made 2 dozen.  And that doesn't include the 4 that I ate after dinner...

Whaaaaat?  The baby in my belly said he needs them ;)

For the second batch I remembered that I like oatmeal in my cookies, so I added oatmeal.  I also love to add craisins.  And coconut, white chocolate chips, coconut, pecans--but I was out of those.
Delish! And the secret ingredient?  Corn starch?!  It supposedly makes the cookies have more fluff.  I love anything with more fluff to it.  Now to help myself to a tall glass of ice cold milk.
Ahhhh.

For dinner (pre-cookies, of course) I was in a time crunch to get something in mine and Mosey's belly before it got too late.  I'm not a huge fan of spaghetti but this is a fun spin off that only has 4 easy ingredients.  4!!
Super fast and Mosey LOVED it.

Boil up some penne pasta (1.),  dump the pasta water and add spaghetti sauce (2.).   Eyeball in some whole milk (3.) to make it creamy(you can also use half and half, or heavy cream-whole was all I had on hand).  Sprinkle in some oregano, basil, garlic powder-or any other spices you wish, then CHEESE(4.) it up.
You can cut up chunks of mozarella in the bake and add shredded parmesan on top, but what I did was cut up three string cheeses (again, all I had) and mixed it in with the noodles and sauce, then sprinkled a bag of Italian shredded cheese on top.
Pop it in at 350 for about 25 mins, add some crusty french bread and whooo-la!
*I broiled the top for a few minutes to get a nice browned cheese on top for a nice cheesy layer.

For a healthier option use wheat pasta-which I love and normally would put in, but I have failed to trick the hubby into eating wheat pasta in the past and it does not fly with him.  :( hmm.   Also it would be just AWESOME with fresh basil.  Nothing beats fresh basil in your dish.  I have unfortunately let my plant go.  It is no longer with us.  Poor thing...
For some protein, add chicken, beef, or shrimp.  Sounds simply delightful!  Yeah?!
Recipe adapted from: howsweeteats.com
Nothing like a happy s'ghetti and cookie plastered face.  Looks like I get Mosey's stamp of approval. :)

Enjoy!

Organizing Tips to Live By and Love.

I've always had a drive to change and improve the space that I'm in.  I remember as young as 8, rearranging all the furniture in my room every now and again not only for a change of scenery, but to see if everything flowed better.  Since then, I've been dubbed the "organized" child in my family.
Right.
What I won't tell you is that when my sister and I shared a room, I would shove all of her stuff under her bed so it would make our room look nicer. What a good sister I was am...

Source: HomeInteriorZone.com

Which brings me to my first point:
1.  There is no right or wrong way to organize.  It more has to do with how to best utilize your space.  Like I always tell my husband and will tell my kids- "Everything needs to have it's own place".  Meaning if everything had a "place" or designated spot-there would never be a mess.  Yes, I do realize that it just can't stay there and look ever so pretty gathering dust.  But if it was used and then put back into its place-so I don't have to stomp around my house like a drill sergeant picking up dirty socks... whoo-la! The house would stay clean!  {If only it were socially acceptable to have a dirty sock hamper in the middle of your living room floor...}
So as I'm currently going through all my kitchen cupboards, not only do I want to make sure that everything has it's own space, AND I want to make sure it makes sense where I'm placing them.  Think of it as putting measuring cups where all my baking paraphernalia is.  Keep like things together.  It's easier to see what you have, and what you need.

2.  Toss anything you don't need.  Keep only what you use.  After clearing out my cup and glasses cupboard, I found a dessert shot glass from PF Changs (from a dessert on the go), a miscellaneous wine glass cup - acquired from who knows where, and two shot glasses from when my brother went to London.  (It sounds like I drink like a fish, but really, I don't--at all.)  The dessert and the wino glass - when am I ever going to need or use them again?  Toss! Or better yet Donate.  And the shot glasses from Cherri-o London? Well, we'll have to find a special place for them as they have sentimental value, but will be Relocated... somewhere else.

3.  Make a list of things that need to be replaced, of things that are broken, things that have worn out, and or are missing.  Again, with the example of my cup cupboard.  I have two "grownup" plastic red cups left.  I did have eight.  Where they ended up, my husband's work or lost in the abyss I call my garage I'll never know.  Also make a list of tools or materials needed to improve the space.  Spice racks, pantry organizers, and bins are a great way to corral your goodies together.

4. Make and stick to a budget for things that need to be replaced or for materials needed to you to continue your quest for ORDER.  Remember not to go overboard because essentially we're trying to subtract, not add to the problem.  If you can't afford it now, save your pennies, or take a dive under your couch cushions until you can afford it.
Example: I would one day LOVE to have all the same spice jars. It bugs me to have eighty different jars-only to find I have three things of cinnamon.  Grr!  For that reason I like to buy in bulk.  So I know what I have AND I find it saves you money.  So I shop and get things like my spices, pasta, nuts, ect at WINCO.  (I love my Winco!) Or I think even Freddy's has bulk stuff.  Right now I have bags and bags of spices that most of them, I have no clue what they are. (Considered them tossed in the garbage-io!) So not only do they clog up my spice space, but they aren't pretty to look at.  I can't afford to go out and buy 30 something spice jars at $4.00 a pop, but I can start small by choosing a jar that I love (and will love forever more) and invest (with coupons or wait for sales) in four or five jars at a time to get my collection started.
How happy the day will be once I have all my spice jars all neat in a row!  Can't wait to get out my label maker (*CHEESEY grin*)!  Plus by keeping a few on hand, I can run out and get a particular spice with no hassle and no bag to mess up my clutter-less look.
       4A.  Another thought while on this tip:  make the investment in nice/er things.  In the long run it will save you time and money to get quality stuff.  It doesn't have to be top dollar, but I have found that while my dollar store organizing stuff is great now, I'm going to have to end up replacing it for something that I actually like to look at later.  Waiting for sales or collecting coupons are great ways to get what you want at a price that makes you do a dance at the checkout stand.

4.  Finish one project before you start another.  A super duper important tip for me because I tend to "wander" when on a project.  Stick with one and finish it out before you tackle the next.  (even if it means taping off your secured area with caution tape. ;)

5.  Deep clean as you go.  If I can accomplish one project by completely clearing out, putting everything in order, then {really} cleaning it out...that's one less thing I have to do for the year  month.  Making spring and fall cleaning a breeze before it even gets here.  Who doesn't want one less thing to do in the end?

6. Organize from big to small.  Or in other words have a direction when organizing.  For my kitchen clear-out project, I started on the right with my cup cupboard and am working in to my left with the rest of my cupboards, then ending up at, gulp!, my pantry.  Saving the biggest for last.  By then hopefully I will have everything else in its own place so all I'll have in there is cereal, soup, and bowtie pasta.

Instead of just cleaning out your utensil drawer,  look at the bigger picture as to how the rest of the kitchen is functioning.  Maybe you need your measuring spoons and spatulas in a different area than your turkey knife.   Think big, then start small by dominating one task at a time.

7. Keep the things you use most easily accessible.  You may not need your sugar and flour bins every day, but you don't want them back behind everything in your pantry when a craving of super chocolate chunk cookies knocks on your door.  Keep your everyday things close to hand and things you don't use as often behind your everyday items or in their own dormant space.

8. Go with your flow. Ways that work for me may not work for you.  Experiment with different settings and methods and see what works and take note of what doesn't work.  If it doesn't work, you can always change it up and move it until it does flow.

9.  Rome wasn't built in one day, neither does your house need to be organized all at once.  Take your time, but don't procrastinate.   Like I may have mentioned before, procrastination tends to be my middle name, but I will e-v-e-n-t-u-a-l-l-y get to whatever project I intend to finish.  {Keyword: eventually.}  Don't hassle yourself into thinking you only have the month of January to squeeze all your new organizing projects in.  Take your time, do it right.  Start with one cupboard, then one shelf at a time. Invest  good, quality time with your project.  Otherwise you'll be back in the same spot as you were before.  Do it once, do it right, as my dad always taught me.

10.  Plan. I put this one last more to be funny and ironic... (even though I may be the only one laughing) Have a good game plan.  Unless, that is, if you have an amazing brain that categorizes and organizes as you go--then you probably don't need these tips.  Notice I say good plan and not perfect.  Make room for improvements and ideas as you go along.  By not having an idea where your going to put A when B doesn't fit where you want it while you still have C-Z scattered on the floor, your project may turn into a even bigger project than what you started with.  Don't make more work than needs be.  If you have to, by all means write it down, cut out pictures, make a small diorama... Without a plan, you don't have a plan.

Well, there you have it.  All I know about organizing in my little world.  I know there are a million and one tips out there that have to deal with this topic, but I've come up with these to help me get motivated and excited for each new endeavor that crosses my path.  The examples above were as I was reorganizing my kitchen cupboards, but can easily applied across the board with any project that you encounter in your home.  I hope these help and if you have any to add, please feel free to add in your comments.

Enjoy!

Got Space?

As I sit here and think more about this month that we'll call order, I'm debating on what to tackel next.  TargĂ© had some of their bins on sale last week, and have some on sale this week as well {a perfect time to buy!}
So I have these:

To fix this:

Hmm.
Well, to begin to fix a smidgen of that...

Remember the month when we did the closets challenge?  My linen closets have stayed perdy nice,
Note to self: Get NEW Towels...{that match!}
but my pantry... {groan...}
is in major need of a facelift-once more.   It's out of control.  And let's not even talk about my kitchen cupboards.. They're kinda itcky too.

With a {another} little one on the way, the need for more space is becoming more apparent as my belly gets bigger
helloooo down there!
and this one gets taller...

I am going to need to start somewhere...

Which means I'm going to have to get off my preggo-my-eggo GB and begin to tackle a new cleaning project.
What are you working on in your month of order?  What tips have you found and loved that help you get of your booty?

For your Sunday enjoyment...

Meet:

A hole in YUM...

a chocolate chunk muffin, sliced in half with the hole scooped in the bottom.  A cool and creamy {Tillimook Udderly Chocolate} ice cream fills the center with the muffin top placed back on.  Frozen for a few hours then eaten within minutes.
Great as a frozen treat or treat yourself to a more delectable, savory bite with a warm fudge sauce drizzled over top with whipped cream...and a cherry on top.

Mmmmmmm....
