CABBAGE!

Now don't snicker... Cabbage has recently changed my life- OK, not really, but it's help me get a little more green in my diet with out much hassle.  Here's just a few interesting facts about the green head, or "caboche" if you speak French.
  • In olden times when asked "Where do babies come from?", mothers would answer-cabbage patches.  Legend has it, that is where we get the muy popular Cabbage Patch Dolls that come all bundled up or dressed with their own birth certificate.  (Remember those? :)
  • Cabbage has been known throughout the ages, both for its nutritional values, and for its medicinal values. It has recently become recognized that it can reduce the risk of certain forms of cancer (such as colon cancer and breast cancer) (squidoo.com)
    • It contains vitamins A, B, C,  and E, boosting metabolism, reducing stress, promoting healthy skin and eyes, boosts the oxygen uptake of blood cells which reduces acne, removes toxins,  and boosts the immune system. (Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/760798)
  • Is easy to grow in all parts of the world- (Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/760798)
    • Time to get that garden goin'- yeah?!
  • Cabbage is found in one of the classics of ancient literature. Achilles washes cabbage in Homer’s The Iliad. (fruitandveggieguru.com)
How to pick out: Choose heads that are compact and heavy for their size. The outer leaves of the cabbage should be without defect and have good green or red color.

So what are we makin' bacon?  (mmm-bacon.)

I've got a recipe that is light, fast, and furiously yummy!
I call it Tuna, Veggies, Queso, and Cabbage on Pita Thingys...
{We may want to consider a shorter name...}

Blogging Award!

Well isn't this Swell! Our very First Bloggy Award! Thanks to 3 Princess' Academy who awarded us with this award! Isn't she just amazing! We can't wait to get to know her better through her Awesome blog!  Who knew these things even existed?
We're not complaining one bit though, oh who are we kidding..
We're Thrilled to be chosen for the Versatile Blogger award!
And guess what's even better... We get to choose 10 of YOU to win this award as well..
It's the gift that keeps on givin'.

Tada!! The mother of all blog awards! Ok I made that up, but to us it is ;)

Now, there are a few rules to winning such a prestigious award, and

The rules of the Versatile Blogger Award are as follows:
  • Thank the person who gave you the award and link back to them in your post.
  • Tell us seven things about yourself
  • Award ten recently discovered new bloggers
  • And That's it!
Here's what we're gonna do since there's 2 of us, we're each going to tell you 3 and 1/2 things about us.
 {which equals 7 if you were a little confused}
OK here' goes
3 and 1/2 things about Ash
  1.   I love the outdoors.  Camping, fishing, hiking, floating the river, gardening {a new one for me}, going on walks, going to the beach {If only Idaho had one!! And no, Rigby Lake doesn'tcount!}. I really like being outside, but only if it's nice...and there's no bugs...and it's not too hot, or too cold and if the sun isn't directly in my eyes...and if the wind isn't blowing. I love the outdoors.
  2.  I love my family. Even my in-laws. {Not even kidding-They are awesome:} They come before anything else in my life. They've always had my back and I'm so grateful for them. Even the days when my little one blows her diaper out all over me while my dog barfs on my couch, {even though I've told her a million times she's not allowed on the couch} and my husband is asking where the keys to his car are: {probably where you put them last...}.  I love my family.
  3.  I've never really had a favorite color.  But if you had to squeeze my arm behind my back and tell you which color I favor most...we'd probably be there a while, because I'm really bad at making decisions.
  4. (1/2) Ok we're including Both our halves in this one.....We both grew up at my grandma's Candy Store {Florences Candies}. I (rozalynn) Spent my first two weeks of life there {in a candy box}. We were both raised to LOVE chocolate. I (ashlie) learned my very first word which was {chocolate} so when we say we have a sweet tooth, we're not even kidding... we grew up eating CANDY!
  5. when I was a kid and someone called me Roselyn (with an s sound) I wouldn't respond because THAT WASN'T MY NAME! childish I know, but hey I was a kid! so make sure you say my name with a Z {hence the Z in the name} ;)
  6. I'm afraid of the dark, especially here in B-town in my sisters creepy cute house, and Especially since the husband is not next to me to fight off the boogie monster
  7. I belong to the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints... I know who I am, I know God's plan, I'll follow him in Faith. I believe in the Savior, Jesus Christ. I'll honor his name. I'll do what is right; I'll follow his light. His truth I will proclaim {that may or may not be a primary hymn hehe}
Now it's time for the fun part... Giving away this Fabulous Blogging Award.. These are some of our favs! since we are new, there's still so more of you to meet! so don't be shy and drop us a line, we'd love to give you an award someday as well

Wasn't That fun? We LOVE giving away and receiving blog awards..
 Have a happy day everyone!!
*our blog is under a little bit of construction, so we apologize for the complete chaos.

Tute-Sweet Tuesday: Cupcake Pin Cushion

Drumroll pleeeeze...
 {drum-drum-drum-drum}

Introducing:
Natalie
A {trulie} scrumptious gal whom we LOVE!
{our BLoG BFF!}
We took a gander at her blog and {hearted}everything in sight!

You'll just adore this sweet treat tute.
We did.
It's so scrumptious, you'll wanna take a nice big bite outta it.  But refrain; you might poke yourself ;) Bahah.
Take it away NatSprat!

Hey! I'm Natalie from over at NatSprat! I am SOOOOOOO excited to be doing Tute Sweet Tuesday here with 2 of my favorite gals in Blogland! (Seriously, aren't they the best!?!) This is a tutorial for a DELICIOUSLY DECEITFUL cupcake pin cushion! So, ready....set....here we go!

YOU WILL NEED:

2 colors of felt: one for the wrapper and one for the frosting
glue gun/glue sticks
sewing machine/thread
stuffing
(not the turkey kind...)

*plug in your glue gun to get it nice and hot. Nice for the glue...not for the fingers*
Cut your strips. They will need to be 3-4 tall and about 8 1/2 inches long. (If the size isn't perfect, it totally doesn't matter. It'll still work great!)

Get your sewing machine all threaded and ready to go. You will fold over your felt strip about every quarter of an inch and sew down the edge with an 1/8" seam allowance. Do this for the whole length of the strip.

It will end up looking like this.

Fold over the top edge about a quarter inch and sew it down using an 1/8 inch seam allowance.

Do the same thing to the other side...

And it will turn out like this. Decide how big around you want your wrapper to be and cut it to the size you want.

Put the ends together and sew them together, remembering to do the back stitch at the beginning and the end of the stitch. Now you're done with the main wrapper part.

On to the sweet stuff! Mmmm. Frosting.

Take one of the strips for the frosting and fold it in half from top to bottom, not lengthwise.
(I totally forgot to take pictures of this part apparently...ARRRGH!)

Start to roll the fabric into a cinnamon bun type thing, gluing a little as you go to hold it together. Don't use too much glue or it'll be hard to get your pins into it. Use your other strip and do the same thing until it's about the circumference as your wrapper.

See how it's kind of taller in the center like an ice cream cone? Try to get it like that. ;)

*****

(Mmmmm....ice cream cone. Does anyone else hear a choir of angels singing? I must be hungry.)

*****

Now, stuff your frosting into the wrapper and glue around the edges to secure it. Awww, it's looking so nice and tasty!

Cut a circle of felt the same size as the wrapper hole. Flip it over and put in your stuffing.

*tip: I ended up putting in some of those little clear glass rock things at the bottom to kind of weigh it down*

Glue on the bottom! You can also use a piece of cardboard cut to the circumference of the wrapper to make it flat on the bottom.

And Voila! You're done, and you have the CUTEST little pin cushion ever! If you want a cherry on top, just use a mini red pom pom! ;)

Now...I have GOT to go get me an ice cream cone. Buh-bye!

The S word...

(Cue Jaws theme music)

Ok all you ladies/and/or/guys.
It's coming.
It's coming quicker than you think.
Yes, I know you know it.
And dread it with each passing day.

What you ask?

Swimsuit season!!!
(ree-ree-ree-ree)

Every year around this season I get this weird idea in my head that I'm going to look so hot-so fab in my skeeny ba-keenee (big LOL), but I always look back on pictures and say "BLAAA..." and throw up a little in my mouth.
(Ok, I'm not that gross)

All I have to say to you is this:
NOT THIS YEAR!
(as my husband now tempts me with a cream filled donut.... not cool Spunky...not cool.)

Forget New Years Resolutions!  Forget re-resoluting your resolution!  This swimsuit season let us all stand up and challenge ourselves to look so fabulously hot and to look back on summer 2011 photos and say:
" Who's that Lady? (who's that lady...)
Sexy Lady (who's that lady...)
No more BLAAAs. and EWWWs.  From now on how bout some Oooohs and Ahhhs.  How nice would it be to post that hotness picture of yours on FB making all those girls from high school jealous. Ya, you know the one's I'm talking about. {wink, wink}
From my point of view, it's not about making drastic changes in your diet and exercise and being super model thin.  No siree- Bob.  (Remember I LOVE food!)  For me, I just want to look good and feel good; on the inside and out.  All it takes is making small healthy changes in your day to day-ness.
And here's how WE're gonna do it, and I say WE cuz WE're going to be each others' accountabili-buddies. (nice huh?)

Four for...er-For four weeks, we will be working one thing each week-starting TODAY!

"But Ashlie," -you ask, "why not start the beginning of May?!"

Because the last week in May is Memorial Day-the day the pool opens up.  We want to strut our stuff right from day one! So each week we will have a new challenge to work on.  Roz and I are counting on YOU to help US be accountable too.
(Even tho Roz is supermodel skeeny and already looks amaaaz-zing!)

So the challenge for the beginning of this week is to:

Step away from the cream filled donut!
--and exchange it for something else.

Simple right?

Eat a carrot, walk around the block, get a tall drink of water, do 50 lunges, (oooooh how I hate them, but they work!) or organize that junk drawer in lou of those empty calories.

If you have to, write down the reasons why you'd like to cut out sweets.   Do it!  It helps.

OR if you are subject to the office vending machine at 2:30 in the afternoon, put the money you would have used to buy that Snickers Bar in a jar and watch the coins stack up and save it for a new somthin'somthin' for ya!    Instead of those Ho-ho's or Tater Skins grab a snack from home.  Grapes or a handful of nuts are great to munch on AND you're getting nutritional value for the day.

I'm not talking taking out sweets 100%-that would be crazy talk!  Remember-just baby steps. We're just getting the unnecessary sweets out of the way to become one step closer to a hot bod summer, and a better, healthier lifestyle.  Plus, no matter what your age is, it's better to start NOW than later-right?  Get your friends and family members involved too so that you can make them your accountabili-buddies as well.

And remember Roz and I will be doing this too-even if it kills us (probably not likely).  If you need support, you can ALWAYS email, FB, or Twitter us.  We got your back.
And you'll got ours...RIIIGHT? :)

P.S. Let us know what works for you to curb your want for sweets!

uce you to possibly the Coolest Crocheter We've ever known!
Take it Away Aubs...

Hi, I'm aubree from aubreeannabanana.blogspot.com , I LOVE to crochet and I'm excited to be doing a giveaway on my good friend Rozalynn's adorable new blog! I've know Roz for quite a long time so of course I texted her when I found out she was doing this awesome new blog and offered to give some stuff away! I'm honestly not a great blogger, I tend to go in spurts :) but I try and that's all that matters right?

This is me and my super sexy hunk of a husband, we got married awhile back and we kinda like each other just a little. We are very outdoorsy people and spend about 99% of our time doing awesome things like skiing, mt. biking, riding our horses, hiking and playing with our super cute puppy!
I get inspired for most of the things I make from the things that we do.
My grandma taught me to crochet when I was just a little girl and I lost interest in it really fast because I thought it was dumb. Years later I was in search of the perfect hat for skiing, and I was really frustrated because I didn't like ANYTHING that I was finding. My grandma reminded me how I could crochet hats really easily and the monster was born! It took me a few days to remember how but after that I was on fire!

I LOVE to crochet, sew and quilt.

The hubs likes to call me grandma but it doesn't even bother me at all! AND it has become such a stress reliever to me to sit down and crochet or sew.

HERE is a link to a really basic but easy crochet tutorial website! Once you learn the basic stitches you can basically create your own patterns and go wild with it!! If any of you have any questions about crocheting or learning how I would love to hear from you and I am more than happy to help you out, just email me at aubreegrover@yahoo.com!

toodles, love ME!

Fruity Fact Friday- Day five of Easter Week

In commemoration of Easter Week, here are some interesting facts about the History of EaStEr.
 EGG-Citing right?
(couldn't choose just one, so bear with us here)
  • The Easter Egg: An ancient symbol of new life. The exchange of eggs for Easter dates back to a springtime custom older than Easter itself in which eggs were given as a symbol of rebirth in many cultures.
Easter is all about renewal and new life, so the egg is not that out of place after all!
  • The Rabbit: is a symbol of new life and rebirth. The legend holds that a poor woman living in Germany decorated colorful eggs for her children to find. As soon as the hidden eggs were found by the children, a large bunny was seen hopping away. This ancient legend is thought to be the root of the Easter Bunny we know and love today.
When taking a bite into a chocolate bunny, 76% of Americans prefer to bite off the ears first. 5% eat the feet first and 4% eat the tail first.
What do YOU bite off first? Now I'm gonna have to go get one just to see what I bite first ;)

  • In the old days pretzels were associated with Easter because the twists of the pretzel were thought to resemble arms crossing in prayer.(Who Knew??)
Isn't Easter The BEST!
(as I sit eating a stash of pre-easter Easter Candy... Yum)
We decided we want EVERYONE to join in on this {Fruity Fact Friday} Fun, so we're making it a Linky Party! Our first One, YAY!
(ok, let's be honest, we have no idea what we're doing here)
But For all those fruity people out there who wanna join in on this Friday fun link it up here, we'd LOVE to see the interesting facts you come up with!

A Centerpiece Fit for Spring: EASTER WEEK Day Four!

Ok, so I only spent two dollars making this centerpiece.
Not to brag {...ok I'm braggin :} but it's totally easy. It's cheep cheep cheep.  And it's perdy!

Wanna know how it's done?
{Course ya do!}

First before I get ahead of myself: let me show you my inspiration.  Another favorite thing of mine is REAL SIMPLE {dot} com, and/or their magzagine, (yes, I purposely spelled it wrong: long story short-that's how I used to say it when I was little.)
(Ok... I was 14 until I got it right.)

Pretty huh?

Mine's not quite that fancy, but I like it.
First off, I went to the dollar store-one of my favorite places to get dollar items-and got a couple of supplies:
and...
(You only need one spool.  I just know myself too well)
Then did a little fancy work...
Perfection right?

Now to the messy part:
*Now you're supposed to use wheatgrass and I had every intention of going out and buying some...
BUT!
instead of a poor collage student like Roz, I am a poor mommacita. Yes, I do have a part time job, but we maxed out our budget for the funeral trip.
Sad beans, yes, I know.
:O(
So I technically "borrowed" this grass from the field across the way and thought that would do just as well... don't ya think?
Don't worry.
I didn't take a huge chunk out of the farmers crop. Just a little one.
But if you don't hear from me in the next couple of days-you know what happened...

 NEXT up:
We're gonna give 'er a hair cut.   I just used my finest cutting scissors kitchen shears and it turned out like this:

---

Um.
Apparently I forgot to take a picture of my grass haircut...
Blaa...

THEN:
I dug into my old wedding junk stuff and found the flowers that were used at my reception.  (good thing I kept them!)
I used a gruddy pencil and poked holes into the dirt to get the fake stems in easier.
If you are fabulously richer than I and will be using real flowers-any spring flowers would look lovely, Tulips, Daffodils, ect... you're going to need an extra step.
Poke the hole with the pencil.  Get out your drinking straws and cut it down to match the length of your stem your using.  Drill your cut straw into the hole and insert your stem into the straw. So it stands nice and straight-er.
TaDa!

And there you have it! A nice SPRING/EASTER centerpiece to brighten up your day!
